Frequently Asked Questions
What are RUF Fire Blocks?
Ecoblaze RUF Fire Blocks are high-density wood briquettes made from compressed sawdust and recycled hardwood residues, with no chemical binders or additives. They're dried to below 12% moisture and Ready to Burn certified, so they light easily and give strong, long-lasting heat with minimal smoke and very little ash. Each brick-shaped block is about 6.5 x 15cm, making them easy to stack and break to size.
Are RUF Fire Blocks better than firewood
For many UK homes, yes. Compared with logs, RUF Fire Blocks give:
- More heat per kg
- Longer, more controlled burns – often up to 2 hours
- Less smoke and ash
- Compact, space-saving storage
Because they produce more usable heat per kg, you’ll refuel less often, making RUF Fire Bricks a cost-effective and efficient alternative to logs - especially for smaller stoves and open fires.
Which appliances can I use RUF Fire Blocks in?
They suit wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves, open fires, fire pits, chimineas and outdoor ovens. Because they break easily, they're especially handy for smaller stoves. As with any solid fuel, check your appliance manufacturer's guidance first.
How do I light RUF Fire Blocks, and can I mix them with logs?
How should I store RUF Fire Blocks?
Store them somewhere dry and well-ventilated – ideally indoors, such as a garage or dry shed – raised off the ground. If they must go outside, use a waterproof cover and leave room for airflow. Damp makes briquettes swell and crumble, so keeping them dry protects their heat output and burn time. See our Briquette Storage Guide for more.
